The Jeffersons actor Ned Wertimer dies aged 89 after fall at home

Ned Wertimer, who played Ralph the Doorman on all 11 seasons of the CBS sitcom The Jeffersons, has died.
Wertimer's manager Brad Lemack said on Tuesday that the 89-year-old actor died at a Los Angeles-area nursing home on January 2, following a November fall at his home in Burbank.
A native of Buffalo, New York, and a Navy pilot during World War II, Wertimer had one-off roles on dozens of TV shows from the early 1960s through to the late 1980s, including Car 54 Where Are You? and Mary Tyler Moore.
But he was best known by far as Ralph Hart, the uniformed, mustachioed doorman at the luxury apartment building on The Jeffersons, the All In the Family spinoff which ran from 1975 to 1985.
The news comes just six months after the show's star Sherman Hemsley died from lung cancer aged 74.
The veteran actor, who won over television audiences as beloved family man George Jefferson, died as a result of a cancerous mass on his lung, according to the results of his post mortem.

The primary cause of death was listed as a 'superior vena cava syndrome' - a complication resulting from a mass on his lung.
The report by the El Paso County Texas Medical Examiner stated that Hemsley had been advised to get chemotherapy and radiation therapy before his death.
Hemsley died on July 24 at his home in El Paso, Texas.
It was initially reported that he died of natural causes.
The actor, who first made the character famous on hit sitcom All in the Family, two years later would be offered a starring role next to Isabel Sanford in spin-off The Jeffersons.
