Painting is of course one of the most important parts of preparing house either for sale or for move-in. This is especially true if you are dealing with the interior of your home. That being said, let's talk a bit about the different types of paints, as well as the monumental difference between primers and sealers. First of all, we will discuss primers.

Primer and sealer will serve to seal off a wall, thereby preparing it for the next coat. Primer is a substance that you will normally use on bare wood, and you might also use it on surfaces that have already been painted on. This will keep the wall stable, and you will also find that primers can help to repel stains from water, smoke, crayons, and anything else that you or your children might expose your walls to.

Do you need to use a primer or sealer on your wall? Well, the wall will not crumble if you fail to do so, but you will find that you have a much better time if you choose to utilize a seal. That being said, let's talk a bit about the different types of paints used in the construction world of today. You might find that you are familiar with some of them, and you may have in fact used them in the past.

Semi-Gloss: This is one of the most durable paints on the market. It is not easy to crack or break, and it would be a great type of paint for a children's room or event in a kitchen where it would often come in contact with substances that would be considered harmful otherwise.

Flat: These are some of the most common types of paints around, but they are actually pretty unremarkable. These are cheap, easy to scratch, and not the most durable in the world. These can be used on ceilings, and they might also be used in rooms that do not see much traffic. Many companies will choose to use this type of paint in their model home, and you should beware that it may give some walls a 'cheap' look and feel.

Satin: Finish Satin finish provides more of an eggshell look, which is why many people refer to it as an eggshell finish. This is a very tough type of paint, and it is much harder than flat paint. This could be used in a child's room of course, or it could be used in a kitchen depending on what will be occurring in the room. It is more expensive of course, but many people find it to be quite worth it.
